History
CA Distringuished School SealNamed after the first female superintendent of Napa County, Irene M. Snow Elementary School opened in 1959. Snow School is situated on a 12 acre parcel nestled among the southern foothills of the Mayacamas mountain range in Napa Valley. Arial views of the original one-winged school show it sharing the landscape with dairies and prune orchards.  Today, single family homes and apartment and condominium complexes have grown-up around us and these resident children populate our now two-winged school building which is expanded with eleven portable classrooms. While we have grown significantly, we have retained our rural quality - we are still bordered to the south by the Napa Valley Horsemen's Association and Boca Farm, a community supported agricultural project.

Our children come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. We are a Title 1 School. Seventy-two percent of our families are of Hispanic backgrounds so the importance of communication in Spanish as well as in English is understood. The PTO and Bi-lingual Advisory parent group work diligently to include every family in the life of our school community.

The staff at Snow numbers 54 full time and part time employees. One hundred percent of the teaching and administrative staff has been deemed “highly qualified” by the State of California. The average years taught for teachers on staff is eleven years at Snow. The staff work well together and show commitment in many ways. A clear sign of confidence in the school is that eleven current staff member have brought their own children or grandchildren to Snow for their education.

Learning Environment
Irene M. Snow School has 415 students in grades K-5, including 16 students in the district's Autism Special Day Classes. The school is staffed by 18 full time teachers. The support staff includes a full-time speech therapist, a part time psychologist, school nurse, an adaptive PE teacher, strings and band teachers, a full time Resource Specialist and a Parent and Community Liaison. The interaction of special needs students included in the larger school population promotes a very positive and unique flavor to our neighborhood school.

Academic Environment
A balanced, comprehensive, standards-aligned core curriculum is at the center of teaching and learning at Irene Snow Elementary. Through focused efforts, careful planning and creative use of support staff, all students at Snow School experience an equitable education in the core curriculum.

Parent Environment
Snow School has welcomed and benefited from strong community support. Family participation, as well as contributions from individual volunteers and organizations make the educational experience fundamentally richer.
